Now is the time to create awareness, tell your stories, and empower others in the process! April Autism Awareness month is important, but creating Autistic Acceptance every day is even more valuable.
SUMMARY: Our neurodivergent community is just that — diverse. We need to hear from all voices and read stories about all the experiences under the neurodivergent umbrella. Encourage voices from different upbringings, cultural backgrounds, religions and beliefs, orientations and gender (expressions).
I firmly believe the next decade of Neurodivergent content creators will shape the future for all neurodivergent people (globally). This means we need to grow our network across all social media platforms, not just be reliant on spaces like Tiktok to share our voices.
We have to focus on mass representation, spreading credible resources, as well as pushing out ableist organizations that only profit from hindering or traumatizing neurodivergent people.
We should hear more representation from BIPOC writers, creators, and advocates. We should hear from self diagnosed adults who share how they realized they were neurodivergent and what resources they would recommend to anyone. We need to hear more about the trauma endured by neurodivergent adults due to masking in school…
